Extending Love

As we go about our daily lives, we consume oxygen and use it to burn glucose so these little bodies we think we are can continue to live and function.

Yet it's our Mind that is who we are. Not the ego mind that thinks thousands of thoughts each day, that makes judgments, that worries and fears. It is God's Mind that we are. For when God extended Himself to create the Sonship he performed that act purely: By extending Himself, He shared the Love, the very essence that is God, with the Sonship so that we are all created from the same "stuff" as God...and that is Love. To my thinking, the concept of "extending" is even more powerful than "creating" because it evokes the image of God simply becoming more of the Love He already Is -- if that were even possible for an infinite, eternal Creator -- and yet He blessed that extension of Himself which has become known through ACIM as His beloved Sonship.

Lesson 45, "God is the Mind with which I think" says is nicely.

That idea holds the key to what our real thoughts are. They are nothing that I think I think, just as nothing that I think you I see is related to true Vision in any way. There is no relationship between what is real and what I think is real.

We think with the Mind of God. Therefore we share our thoughts with Him, as He shares His with us. They are the same thoughts -- God's Will -- because they are thought by the same Mind. To share is to make alike, or to make one. Nor do the thoughts we think with the Mind of God leave our mind, because thoughts do not leave their source. Therefore, the thoughts of our Right Mind are in the Mind of God, as we all are.

So for me, I find it moving when I see Love being expressed among people. It harkens back to the Love that God extended and expressed in each of us and reflects so wonderfully on the Loving core of who and what we all really are. Finding genuine expressions of Love is not especially difficult these days. In addition to enjoying a fulfilling Holy Relationship with Becky that causes me to thank God at least a couple of times every day, I find expressions of Love that our wonderful technology brings to us.

Here's a short example. The audience, the judges and I am sure most every viewer of this live performance expressed Love, warmth, encouragement and admiration for this young man. May we all do more of that... more of the time...with more and more of our brothers and sisters...as we burn up that glucose and oxygen while we go about our seeming lives every day.

Becoming a Better "Decider"

We are all “deciders.” We decide whether to choose the right mind with God or the ego mind with our own limited, fearful belief that we are separate from God. That we need to hide from Him because we believe, in our ego's heart of hearts, that we have blatantly separated ourselves from God, abandoned Him and come to live here on this Earth: this “world of form” that seems to be so completely real.

However, we can all decide to make another choice: the choice for God. But how does this work out in our daily lives?

Lately I've been struggling with what I believed to be a Holy Relationship, only to find that my ego is still making a lot of my decisions, leading me to see what I thought was a Holy Relationship only remains so when I choose to live in my “right mind.” When I let myself fall back into ego thinking once again, all that seemed so Holy begins to fade. My ego takes over and tells me things that are so pedestrian. Things that are so without Truth, so without God, that I find myself in a curious, disturbing bind that tells me my ego thoughts are the most important. My ego thoughts tell me that communing with God is not a worthwhile way to spend my time. That I – meaning my ego mind – is what's most important.

Ken Wapnick's latest video talks about cause and effect. He points out that there is a huge gap in our understanding about cause and effect. The ego mind fears being displaced by the right mind because it fears its own “death,” being relegated to a background position and being replaced by the right mind. When this happens, we – including me – have not been effective “deciders” in choosing God, the Holy Spirit and the right mind over our ego minds.

Continuing to use our ego minds to seek out solutions to our suffering, our disappointments and our perceived failures is fruitless. When we seek to find the causes of our suffering in the ego mind we're just spinning our wheels pointlessly. As Liz Cronkhite so clearly points out, there are four Habits for Inner Peace. These include (1) communing with God on a daily basis, (2) meditating with God and the Holy Spirit each day, preferably upon waking, (3) turning inward to maintain our awareness of God in our lives throughout the day and, (4) allowing Love (what we all truly are) to extend through us, remembering that's what we are.

That's a superb formula for remembering who and what we really are. It eliminates the chasm Ken Wapnick talks about between cause and effect. Taking these four steps each day puts us in touch with God and helps us spend our time in our Right Minds. At the same time these four habits do not fight or condemn the ego mind that's always striving for dominance. It just relegates it to a far less important place as our Right Mind begins to occupy more and more of our conscious thought-time throughout each seeming day.

I want to become a better “decider” and use my decision-making Mind to choose again each moment, each day, so long as I've got another day here on this Earth. Then, what once seemedHoly will regain its former glory because I've chosen to see it that way.
